Master Bond features products and systems that are designed for the sensitive components found within data storage devices. As the trend toward smaller devices with higher performance continues, epoxies are proving to be better at fitting into tighter clearances than traditional mechanical fastening techniques. Our products offer outstanding electrical properties—both electrical insulation and conductivity, as well as heat resistance and the ability to bond to a variety of similar and dissimilar substrates.
Many in the scientific community see spintronics as the next breakthrough in data storage. This emerging technology uses powerful magnetic fields to polarize electrons and store information in the spin of an atom’s nucleus, rather than as an electric charge, as is the case with semiconductors. This would produce faster and more energy efficient computers and data storage devices. However, the process requires a cryogenic environment, which would make cryogenically serviceable adhesives a likely choice for spintronic device assembly applications.
Even though spintronic technology is in its early stages of development, it is currently being used for read heads of modern hard drives. Other storage devices that are widely used include:
- Flash memory drives
- Optical disc drives
- Solid-state drives (SSDs)
- Hard disk drives
- Circuitry with volatile and non-volatile RAM
