One and two component epoxy compounds have been developed for aerospace bonding, potting, filling and repair applications. These high performance compositions are available for use in low and high viscosities. Specific grades meet NASA low outgassing specifications and comply with UL 94V-0 flame retardancy requirements, pass vertical and horizontal burn tests under the FAR Standard 14 CFR 25.853(a). These RoHS compliant products do not contain any substances of very high concern (SVHCs) as per REACH. Additionally, grades pass Boeing specifications BSS 7238 Revision C for low smoke and 7239 Revision A for toxicity. They have also been successfully tested for Airbus ignition, optical density of smoke and toxicity.
Benefits of Structural Toughened Paste Adhesives for Aerospace Applications
- High bond strength to similar and dissimilar substrates including composites, aluminum, stainless steel and titanium
- Resistance to cyclic fatigue
- High peel strength
- Superior durability and toughness
- Exceptional compressive strength
- Fast set systems
- Custom packaging
- High glass transition temperatures
- Automatable application
Structural paste formulations have low sag properties, can fill gaps between bonding surfaces and are excellent for use on vertical substrates. They are easy to apply, can be precisely dispensed, can be stored at ambient temperatures. While two component systems often feature a long working life, single component no mix products have an "unlimited" working life. Select grades are engineered to cure rapidly at low temperatures. Systems are available for autoclave and out-of-autoclave bonding. These compositions are most effective in joining different shapes and thicknesses, even thin substrates. Most significant, they improve the distribution of stresses over bonded joints, protect against corrosion, enhance aerodynamics, aesthetics, eliminate hole drilling, protruding fasteners, deliver smooth contours, save time, lower weight, decrease costs. Innovative grades will sustain performance in extreme operating environments including high/low temperatures. These solvent free compounds also exhibit impact, micro-crack resistance, withstand numerous chemicals and enable design flexibility for aircraft manufacturers.
Master Bond B-staged epoxy film adhesives are ready to use, require no mixing, feature controlled flow for maximum bond integrity, consistent bond line thickness. They are available for use as sheet or rolls in a range of thicknesses and weights. These structural adhesives possess high bond strength for metal to metal, composite bonding, honeycomb sandwich structure applications. They exhibit fast cures at moderate temperatures, have excellent tack, withstand exposure to moisture, chemicals, impact fatigue.Select grades have extraordinary toughness, durability, resistance to thermal cycling, high peel and cleavage strength, long storage stability without refrigeration.Products are suitable for cost effective, high volume production and facilitate bonding of complex shapes, large areas. Preforms can be pre-cut into intricate shapes. Cutting edge film adhesives re job proven in meeting extreme environmental conditions even in narrow bond line widths. It is important to note that Master Bond film adhesives have given a competitive edge to many aerospace manufacturing companies and have cut expenses by eliminating waste.
Master Bond offers specialized packaging for aerospace applications, including pre-measured kits and convenient gun applicators.
